Last night Marcham Parish Council voted unanimously against the planning application, on grounds that it was a thinly veiled attempt to build residential homes on the Green Belt.
In a full room, members of the local community and representatives from Save Cothill Pitt action group welcomed the decision.
Strong arguments were heard from three speakers objecting the development, followed by a response from the developer's planning consultant, Icon Consulting. In a move that back-fired, the consultant asked the members of public present if they would prefer to have the site fenced off and turned into a nature reserve as an alternative to the building development. He appeared somewhat flustered when the entire room loudly responded "Yes!!!".
However, as welcome as this decision is, the real vote that matters is the next one from the Vale of White Horse Council. To influence this decision, it is objections from the public that count. Have your say in local planning by saying 'no' before the 5th January.
