Parliamentary committee speaks out for environment and social dimensions in planning decisions
December 16, 2014
Today a report from a cross-party committee stressed the need for the 2-year old National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) to lead to sustainable, not inappropriate development as it in many case has done.
The summary makes clear;
"We should ensure that the same weight is given to the environmental and social as to the economic dimension; that permission is only given to development if accompanied by the infrastructure necessary to support it; and that the planning system places due emphasis on the natural environment."
This is excellent news for those of us fighting inappropriate development that puts economics (on grounds of tourism) before the environment and local communities.
