We now have confirmation that Cothill Pitt has been sold. It has been bought by the owner of neighbouring Hitchcopse Farm.
In the next few weeks he will be fencing it off. Work has already begun on erecting fencing around other parts of the Cothill complex in preparation for using areas for grazing (see photo above). Care is being taken to maintain public rights of way.
The new CP owner is considering how the old pit site (photo below) should be managed. He has already had a very positive discussion with the local Wildlife Trust and he will be speaking to local people including members of Save Cothill Pitt. From these discussions a plan will emerge.
Judith Haworth, Chair of SCP, has expressed great relief that Cothill Pitt has been saved from being developed as a holiday park and that it is likely to be managed in a way which will support its exceptional flora and fauna. However, she concedes it is unlikely that there will be general public access in the future and acknowledges this will be missed by many people.
